Connect 4 for Two on One Device

How two people play connect 4 on one phone, how a disc drops, and why undo takes the point back.

What is connect 4 same device?

Connect 4 is a 7 by 6 board for two people. Four of one color in a line wins.

You play connect 4 online on this page by passing one phone. That is how you play connect 4 same device, and connect 4 no download means the page is the whole game.

Connect four two player is the same match. A four in a row game counts a row, a column, and a diagonal of four.

Why does one phone matter?

One phone matters because both players are already in the room. A hot seat keeps the match there.

Passing one phone across a table when nobody has paper is the ordinary case. Playing a full match without creating an account is the other reason to stay on this page.

Who drops first is a separate question. A coin flip settles it, and tic tac toe is the smaller board when four is the wrong target.

How does the disc drop?

The disc drops into the lowest empty cell of the column under your finger. The column lights up first, and the disc commits when you release.

For example, X releases on the left column and the disc sits on the bottom row. O releases on the next column. X returns to the left column, and the new disc sits on top of the first.

For example, four releases by X in that same column, with O answering beside it, make a vertical line. The banner says X wins.

What are the four in a row rules?

The rules are one color, four cells, one straight line. A diagonal counts the same as a row or a column.

  • X drops first, then O answers
  • A disc falls to the lowest empty cell
  • Four matching discs in a line end the game
  • A full board with no line is a draw

For example, discs on a diagonal from the bottom of one column up to the right are a win when they share a color. Checking a diagonal before calling the board a draw is part of reading the result.

How is a hot seat different from a network match?

A hot seat is two people sharing one phone. A network match looks for someone on another device.

You pass the phone instead of waiting in a lobby. Unlike a network match, the other color is not a computer.

Waiting for a computer to play the other color is the wrong picture of this page. This board lives in the games category.

What if the disc lands in the wrong column?

Undo takes that disc back, and only that disc. Taking back a tap that landed in the wrong column returns the turn as well.

Avoid refreshing mid-match and expecting the score to still be there. Nothing is saved, so a refresh clears the tally and the grid.

Rematch clears the board and hands the first drop to the color that went second. However, the wins and draws stay on the tally until you press Reset score or leave the page.
