Age calculation works one unit at a time, from the smallest to the largest. Subtract the day, then the month, then the year. If the day of the reference date is earlier in the month than your birth day, you borrow a month and add back the real length of the previous month, which is 28, 29, 30, or 31 days depending on the month. If the month then comes out negative, you borrow a year. Therefore the result is a calendar-correct age that respects each month's true length. Leap years affect an exact age too: a span that crosses several 29 Februaries holds more days than a flat 365 per year would suggest, which is why the count uses the real calendar.

Examples
For example, born 15 May 1990, measured on 8 July 2026. That is exactly 36 years, 1 month, and 23 days, which is 13,203 days.
Next birthday. On 8 July 2026 a 15 May birthday has already passed, so the next one is 15 May 2027, and the tool counts the days until then.
Day of the week. 15 May 1990 was a Tuesday, which the calculator reports alongside the age, so the "what day was I born" question is answered in the same step.
Age Calculator vs the Alternatives
The two usual alternatives are mental math and a spreadsheet. Mental math means subtracting the birth year from the current year, so the real question is exact calendar age versus a simple year subtraction. However, that shortcut is wrong for most of the year, because it ignores whether the birthday has already happened. For example, someone born in December is a full year younger than the naive subtraction suggests for the eleven months before their birthday.
A spreadsheet does better with a function such as DATEDIF, but it needs the right arguments and still will not show weeks, the weekday of birth, or a birthday countdown at a glance. Age in Months, Weeks, and Days
The same age also appears as totals. Total months count every completed month, total weeks are the whole weeks within the elapsed days, and total days are the exact count between the two dates.
