How JSON to JSON Schema works

The schema records JSON types seen in this example. A string stays a string: the page does not guess that it is a name, an email, or a required field.

Input

Not inferred
required, format, enum, or additionalProperties
Empty array
type array, with no items schema

Uses of JSON Schema

  • Drafting a schema from a payload a model returned
  • Seeing the shape of a minified JSON blob before you write checks
  • Confirming an example is an object of strings and numbers

JSON Schema pitfalls

  • Treating the result as a complete contract
  • Expecting a person-name format from a string
  • Expecting required because the key was in the sample

JSON Schema questions (4)

What does JSON to JSON Schema infer?

The JSON types in the example. A string stays a string, a whole number is integer, a fraction is number, and true or false is boolean. An object lists the keys that appear. An empty array has no items schema.

Will a name field be marked as a person name?

No. "Atharva" only shows that the value is a string. The page does not add a format, an enum, or a description.

Are fields marked required?

No. One example cannot show that a field must always be present. Required is left unset.

Does this send my JSON to a server or a model?

No. The schema is built in your browser. Runs entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded. It does not call an AI model.
