Uses of kinetic sand

  • A short sensory drag during a break, without an app
  • Resetting the mound between calls instead of reloading
  • Using low intensity on a budget phone so the frame rate holds

kinetic sand pitfalls

  • Reloading when Reset pile would restore the mound
  • Expecting a GPU demo on a phone-width tab
  • Judging depth by colour only

kinetic sand questions (7)

How do I play kinetic sand online?

Drag through the mound. Grains displace and settle. On a phone, tilt left or right after you touch the pile or tap Play, and the grains run downhill. There is no account and no install. This sand fidget is virtual kinetic sand you play with sand online; Feel intensity (Settings → Feel) picks how many columns the pile uses, so a budget phone can stay calm.

What does Reset pile do?

It restores a centred mound without reloading the tab. When sand packs into a corner the fidget looks finished. Reset is the continuation: same pile, same prefs, back to a heap you can drag again.

Why does a pinch not zoom the page?

The canvas captures the pointer and sets touch-action to none, so a two-finger gesture grabs sand instead of the browser page. That is a common failure on other sand toys.

Is this a heavy WebGL demo?

No. It is a column pile, not a particle ocean. Low, medium, and high intensity change column count. Reduced motion still lets you dig; grains jump to rest instead of trickling.

Do I need to download an app for kinetic sand online?

No. This is virtual kinetic sand online in the browser. Open the tab, drag or tilt, and leave. Runs entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

What does Play do?

Play fills the screen with the sand stage under the tool name. Reset pile stays in the corner because packing is the end of the task. Exit or Escape restores the page. Mute only flips sound; set Sound and Haptics under Feel before Play, because the Feel strip hides in play.

Can I tilt my phone to pour the sand?

Yes. After you touch the pile or tap Play, tilt the phone and the grains run downhill. The tilt reading stays on your device. Drag still works on a desktop, where there is no gyroscope.
